The Healing Arc with the support of the Agricultural Adaptation Council Canadapt Program is researching the properties of Sea buckthorn. (Hippophae rhamnoides L) Sea Buckthorn is a perennial shrub whose berries and leaves are high in biologically active phytochemicals, including Vitamin A & E. Native throughout Europe and Central Asia, Sea Buckthorn has never been commercially grown in Canada. This Value Chain Development project aims to establish the rationale, market intelligence, and management knowledge required to establish a closely-aligned value chain producing, processing and marketing Ontario-grown Sea Buckthorn and value-added Sea Buckthorn products across Canada.
