Small peptides derived from colostrum (SPC) have been found to enhance the immune system. SPC has been used in the treatment of a variety of infections (bacterial, fungal, viral) in the treatment of cancer and autoimmune and inflammatory disease. InfectionsSPC has been used in the treatment of herpes zoster (which produces nerve inflammation). SPC has been used to treat infants with Salmonella and E. coli and general organ infections, such as refractory urinary tract infections. Patients with inflammation of the nerves - a complication of herpes zoster were successfully treated when SPC was administered over a period of 8 weeks. Auto-immune and inflammatory diseaseSPC has been used to treat refractory cases of atopic dermatitis with good results. In one study, significant improvement was observed, when patients with atopic dermatitis, who did not respond to conventional therapy, were treated over a period of sixty days. It has also been used to treat recurrent inflammation of the eye - in these cases it was administered over several years with a ten-year follow-up. 35 of the 50 patients had no recurrence. It is believed that SPC may help in these conditions by increasing T-suppressor cell activity. CancerSmall peptides from colostrum have also been used as an adjuvant in the treatment of cancer patients during chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. These patients had a more favourable outcome than control patients.
