Oregano
The Healing Arc in collaboration with the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada conducted a study into the cultivation of oregano.
The objectives of this project:
To find a variety of oregano oil with a high carvacrol content
To determine bioactive components in oregano
To determine the suitable growing conditions for oregano
To determine yield and viability of growing oregano in Canada
To determine yield from steam distillation
Personnel:
Dr. Rong Cao – Research Scientist
Marlene Wynnyk M.S.W – Research Coordinator
The Healing Arc has successfully completed this project:
Lutein
Lutein: Evidence exists which demonstrates this carotenoid is selectively accumulated in the macula and retina of the eye. It is this phenomenon which has led to the health claim suggesting that lutein may help to reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
The Healing Arc in conjunction with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has researched the growing of marigolds (Tagetes erecta) for the extraction of lutein from the flowers.
The objectives of this project:
To find a method for cultivation of Tagetes erecta in Ontario
To determine conditions for drying and extraction without degradation of lutein
Personnel:
Dr. Rong Cao – Research Scientist
Marlene Wynnyk M.S.W – Research Coordinator
The Healing Arc has produced a unique Lutein Complex soft gel cap as a result of this combined research.
